Beverley Community Choir
Established as part of Beverley Folk Festival’s Community Programme in 2003, Beverley Community Choir sings a range of popular, world and traditional a cappella music. Under the inspiring musical direction of Sue Murray, we all believe that singing together is natural and above all fun.
Over the years, the choir has performed in a wide variety of venues, supporting other artists, singing as part of our own fundraising concerts or participating in local festivals and events. We have also recorded two albums, available on CD. Both ‘Chasing Rainbows’ and ‘Spirit of Winter’ were recorded in Beverley. We are proud to support local charities with the proceeds from our CD sales and concerts.
Musical Director
Sue Murray’s roots are very much in folk music. She was a founding member of Beverley Community Choir, accumulating skills during her time with East Riding School’s Music Service. Sue is a member of the Natural Voice Network (NVN) and is passionate about singing. Experienced in running harmony workshops and developing a cappella arrangements over the years, Sue also writes her own songs, some of which have been performed and recorded by the choir.
Membership
We have over 40 active singers. The choir is open to anyone aged 16+. You don’t need to audition or read music, just have a love of singing. We meet on Thursday evenings in Beverley. Current subs are £50 per term, paid termly.
Membership application is via a waiting list, which is opened depending on singer numbers. Every now and then, we run open evenings or workshops when non-members are welcome. Drop us an email with any enquiries and sign up for emails if you want to be kept informed of concerts and activities, or to receive an alert when the waiting list is going to open. Or if you are social media savvy, you can always follow us on Facebook.

“If any group is guaranteed to bring spirit and exuberance to its performances and delight audiences with a diverse and fascinating repertoire, it has to be The Beverley Community Choir. It’s been a joy to share a stage with them on many an occasion.” Simon Mayor
